About Us
Methilhill Community Children's Initiative is a community led group dedicated to providing local children and young people with opportunities to play, learn and grow.
Based within the Methilhill Community Learning Garden, we operate a 6 day programme of activities including garden based activities, local youth clubs and outreach sessions to schools and organisations.
We have been running for 10 years, and were founded by local parents and community members who wanted to provide local children with community based experiences. Community spirit together with meaningful learning is at the heart of everything we do. The children and young people are strongly involved in the planning of sessions and the development of their clubs, and they even have a nominated representative who attends board meetings to voice their opinions on all matters.
All staff and volunteers have PVG disclosures and must attend training for a minimum of First Aid, Child Protection and Food Hygiene. Some members of staff and volunteers are qualified childcare practitioners. Staff and volunteers regularly attend training throughout the year on topics such as evaluation, climate change, gardening with children which additional support needs, tree planting, outdoor play, awards training and other topics related to health and activity.
This ensures the children who attend our clubs are safe and challenged by a competent and confident staff team.
